An Introduction to the Study of Organic Chemistry

Part-1: The first three chapters of this text cover a variety of topics that you need to be familiar with to start a study of reactions and synthesis of organic compounds.

Electrophilic Addition Reactions, Stereochemistry, and Electron Delocalization

Part-2: This part discusses the reactions of compounds with a carbon–carbon double bond or a carbon–carbon triple bond. It also covers stereochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, and electron delocalization.

Substitution and Elimination Reactions

Part-3: Chapters 9, 10, and 11 delve into the reactions of compounds with an electron-withdrawing atom or group bonded to a sp carbon. Chapter 12 introduces organometallic compounds as nucleophiles for substitution reactions. Chapter 13 discusses alkane reactions under extreme conditions.

Identification of Organic Compounds

Part-4: Chapter 14 covers mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Chapter 15 discusses nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Carbonyl Compounds

Part-5: Focuses on the reactions of compounds containing a carbonyl group.

Aromatic Compounds

Part-6: Discusses aromatic compound reactions with specific focus on benzene structure in Chapter 8.

Bioorganic Compounds DNA

Part-7: Chapters 21 to 26 discuss bioorganic compound chemistry found in living systems.

Special Topics in Organic Chemistry

Chapter 27 covers polymers synthesis while Chapter 28 discusses pericyclic reactions and the orbital symmetry theory's role in explaining reactant-product relationships under specific conditions.
